With millions of businesses applying each year, you may be wondering how a company ends up on the Inc. 5000 list. The basic qualifications state that for a company to be considered, it must be:

• Based in the U.S.

• Privately held

• For-profit

• Independent—not a subsidiary or division of other companies

Potential applications get trimmed past that though. While millions of companies dream about making the Inc. 5000 list, not everyone can apply. To be considered for Inc. Media’s prestigious Inc. 5000 list in 2024, a business’s minimum revenue in 2020 had to reach at least $100,000, and the minimum revenue for 2023 had to reach $2 million.

Once a company makes the cut for the application process, growth rates are used to determine company rankings on the Inc. 5000 list. This competition grows steeper each year as companies across every industry are bringing their best game.
